When you decide to become a Katie Nurse, you can choose from a wide variety of programs at St. Catherine University designed for nurses at various points in their career trajectory. They include the following programs.

Certified Nursing Assistant Training Course

The hybrid CNA certificate program is open to all genders. The program combines online courses with mandatory in-person laboratory days. Graduates are prepared to work as certified nursing assistants. Some states require a certificate to pursue the profession. Earning this credential may require a high school diploma or GED, as well as 75 hours of training or more, depending on the state.

Bachelor’s Degree Programs

The on-campus Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is offered through the College For Women and is open to women only. The BSN is the preferred entry-level degree for registered nurses by healthcare institutions and professional organizations. Earning a BSN degree prepares graduates to work in complex environments, such as community and public health, acute and critical care, long-term care, and outpatient settings.

The hybrid BSN program is offered through the College of Adults and is open to all genders. The program combines online courses with face-to-face instruction at our St. Paul, Minn., campus. The program also offers hands-on clinical experiences at leading Twin Cities-area hospitals.

It’s designed for registered nurses who have an associate degree and want to complete the courses needed to earn a BSN. This program offers a flexible, online format that allows nurses to complete their BSN on their own schedule.

Master’s Degree Programs

This hybrid program is offered to all genders. Earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) prepares nurses for advanced nursing practice and leadership positions. The entry-level MSN program is designed for students with a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field and provides an accelerated nursing curriculum. Graduates develop expertise in clinical leadership, evidence-based practice, teamwork and communication, healthcare economics and politics, and healthcare informatics.

The online MSN: Nurse Educator program is available for all genders. The program is designed for those who have a BSN degree and want to earn a degree that prepares them for positions in health systems, colleges, and other healthcare settings. Graduate students learn education principles, the need for diverse students, creative instructional techniques, and innovative student evaluation strategies. They also explore the ethical, legal and leadership dimensions of nurse educators, as well as nursing, healthcare, and societal trends.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

This 100% online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Post-Master’s program is open to all genders. The program is designed for working nurses with an MSN who aspire to improve patient outcomes and also advocate for positive change in a variety of healthcare settings. The DNP is the highest degree for nursing practice. Earning a DNP opens the door to Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) positions such as clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, and nurse midwife.

This hybrid certificate program is open to all genders. The program combines online instruction with 540 hours of in-person clinical experiences that St. Catherine University facilitates. Students learn a medical-pharmacological approach to mental health. They also learn a holistic approach that integrates alternative and complementary therapies and to recognize the social and diverse differences in the community they serve.
